Kingfish Company and VAQ sign design deal for expanded RAS facility in the Netherlands
According to a press release, the project involves a significant expansion of The Kingfish Company's existing facilities, which have a producytion capacity of 3,500 tonnes per year.
The yellowtail kingfish (Seriola lalandi) farmer has previously completed two construction phases in Kats in Zeeland, and supplies the European market.
The agreement with Norwegian recirculating aquaculture systems expert VAQ concerns process and engineering services for the planning of a third department at the site.
The deliveries include, among other things, the design of production facilities, recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) design, and relevant support systems with process and flow diagrams, as well as wastewater treatment.
The preliminary project was initiated at the beginning of September, and is to be completed by the end of 2024. The result will form the basis for The Kingfish Company's final investment decision.
Sondre Høidalen, managing director at VAQ AS, said the company looks forward to expanding its experience base from constructing complete salmon farming facilities to what is for VAQ a new species of fish.
