Gigante Salmon now has more than 1,000 tonnes of fish in raceways
Land-based fish farmer Gigante Salmon had a standing biomass of 1,070 tonnes at the end of March, it said in an operational update for the first quarter of 2025.
The Winter 2024 generation (stocked in January last year) accounts for 560 tonnes of the total biomass and fish have an average weight of 3.5 kilos.
The Autumn 2024 generation (stocked in September last year) makes up the remaining biomass, 510 tonnes, with an average weight of 620 grams.
Production has been positive throughout Q1, with satisfactory growth, said Gigante, which is farming its fish in flow-through raceways in pools excavated into the bedrock of the island of Lille Indre Rosøy in Rødøy municipality, Nordland, around halfway up the Norwegian west coast.
Gigante Salmon will begin harvesting the pilot production, the Winter 2024 generation, in the current quarter. The expected harvest volume is approximately 550 gutted weight tonnes.
