Aquaculture biotechnology company Benchmark has strengthened its UK and Ireland sales team with a promotion and a new appointment, it announced today.

Harry Tziouvas, formerly Benchmark’s global sales and technical manager for salmon, becomes commercial lead UK and global for land-based fish farming.

Benchmark said Tziouvas brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked as senior biologist for the Scottish Salmon Company (now Bakkafrost Scotland), overseeing fish health management across marine and freshwater sites in the North region.

Joining Tziouvas in the commercial team is Alex Kulczyk, recently appointed as sales and technical UK associate. With a background as site manager at salmon egg producer AquaGen’s Holywood Breeding Centre in Dumfries, and a BSc in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, Kulczyk brings expertise in leading production sites and fostering strong customer relations.

“I am thrilled that Alex has embraced this exciting opportunity to contribute his expertise to Benchmark,” said Tziouvas. “His background and experience will undoubtedly strengthen our support for Scottish and Irish customers.”

Alex Kulczyk: Benchmark products can support a sustainable future for aquaculture.

Kulczyk, based at Benchmark’s offices in Edinburgh, said he was excited to join and contribute to a dynamic team.

“Aquaculture is a fast paced and innovative industry, and I believe that the specialised products and services that Benchmark provides will support a sustainable and resilient future,” he said. “I look forward to working alongside and supporting our Scottish and Irish customers and being a part of this forward-thinking company.”

Benchmark supplies salmon eggs internationally from broodstock in Iceland and has domestic egg production facilities in Norway and Chile.

The company also supplies the sea lice medicines Salmosan Vet, containing azamethiphos, and Ectosan Vet. Currently, Ectosan Vet – which contains the insecticide, imidacloprid - is only licensed for use in Norway and the Faroe Islands and can only be used in conjunction with Benchmark’s CleanTreat treatment water filtration system.

Benchmark is exploring the use of CleanTreat to enable more effective use of Salmosan Vet in Scotland.
