Benchmark Genetics Chile announced new general manager

This is about the industrial engineer Juan Pablo Ramírez, who has more than 13 years of experience in the aquaculture sector, and will now lead the company in the country.

Benchmark Genetics Chile announced that last July 8, Juan Pablo Ramírez Torrealba assumed the role of new general manager of the company, replacing Berta Contreras Mutis, who will undertake new professional challenges.

Juan Pablo Ramírez is an industrial engineer, with a specialization in Electrical, from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and has more than 13 years of experience in the aquaculture sector, where he has held various management and leadership positions throughout the production chain, from freshwater to the commercial area.

Throughout his extensive career in the chilean salmon industry, his roles as manager of Production and Operations of Sea Water and later as manager of Farming of Yadran Cultures (2020-2024) stand out. He also served as manager of Naviera Río Dulce (2019-2020); regional manager of Camanchaca Cultivos Sur in Chiloé (2017-2018); and deputy manager of Planning and later of North America Sales of Salmones Camanchaca in Tomé, Biobío Region (2013-2015).

His beginnings in the sector date back to 2011, when he started as a commercial assistant at Salmones Friosur, where he eventually became the head of the Processing Plant in Puerto Chacabuco, Aysén Region, until the end of 2013.

Regarding his incorporation into the Benchmark Genetics Chile team, the executive indicated that it is a motivating professional challenge, where he will be able to apply all the knowledge he has gained while working in different stages of salmonid production. "I am very happy to join an international company like this one, a leader in the production of Atlantic salmon eggs globally. I believe that in Chile we still have a long way to go in terms of sharing with customers the good results that are being obtained with quality products, good performance, and highly biosecure."

For his part, Geir Olav Melingen, director of Benchmark Genetics, stated that the company is very pleased to incorporate Juan Pablo Ramírez as the team leader in Chile, "as he is a professional with a broad trajectory in the industry who has all the necessary capabilities to continue with the company's expansion process in the country." He added that "Juan Pablo has our full support to continue working hard in the production of the best Atlantic salmon eggs for Chilean salmon farming."

He also thanked Berta Contreras for her work during her time at Benchmark, emphasizing that her work was key to substantially increasing the company's positioning in the Chilean market. "We wish Berta much success in her upcoming challenges."
