Agrovet reactivates in Chile the commercialization of a solution to control Saprolegnia
According to current legislation, the product Aqualife-Formalin is a highly useful tool for controlling this pathology in the salmon farming, developed by Syndel.
Agrovet, a national company with over 40 years of experience in animal health, announced through a press release that it is marketing, subject to current regulations in Chile, the product Aqualife-Formalina, developed by Syndel Inc, a company with a long history in sanitary solutions for the aquaculture industry in North America and present in Chile since the 90s with alternatives to improve the reproductive efficiency of salmonids and to address external parasitic problems, including fungi in freshwater.
Syndel was a pioneer in the incorporation of pharmaceutical grade formalin (the highest degree of purity and certification for a chemical product) as a new option for the control of fungi of the genus Saprolegnia that affect farmed salmon. This was realized with the registration of Aqualife-Formalina, under the national regulatory system.
Despite the uncertainties that have affected the use of formalin in aquaculture in Chile in the last period, and convinced that this product, when used responsibly and in accordance with current regulations, does not pose risks to the health of operators or the environment, Syndel decided to transfer the production of Aqualife-Formalina to Bakelite Chile, who continues to produce according to American standards at its plant in the city of Concepción (BiobÃo Region).
This plant is currently in operation and duly registered as a 'Pharmaceutical Production Laboratory of Veterinary Pharmaceutical Products' with the Agricultural and Livestock Service of Chile (SAG) and also has Responsible Care certifications from Asiquim and ISO 9001, 2015 version, being the first facility approved for the production of pharmaceutical grade formalin in the country.
Agrovet, a member of the Mathiesen corporate group with a presence in 16 countries in Latin America and offices in Europe and China (Shanghai), has maintained the necessary registrations and authorizations for Aqualife-Formalina over the past months. Thus, it is now available to market the product in line with the new regulatory changes that are being observed locally and that are allowing the use of formalin under the conditions recommended by the authority.
Furthermore, the company has been collaborating on the production plant project located in Concepción, as well as presenting information and files to regulators to obtain operational authorizations.
Alejandro Poblete, from Agrovet Aqua, commented, "We are very pleased to offer Aqualife-Formalina to Chilean salmon farmers, as we are aware of its utility and efficiency in controlling Saprolegnia in the freshwater stage. We hope to continue helping producers better manage the impact of this fungus, very responsibly and in accordance with current regulations."
