Salmon Evolution harvested 680 tonnes HOG in Q3

The Norwegian land-based fish farmer has delayed some slaughter until the current quarter to take advantage of an expected price rise

Salmon Evolution harvested 680 tonnes (head on gutted) in the third quarter and expects a harvest in the fourth quarter of about 1,800 tons HOG, resulting in a total harvest in 2024 of about 5,000 tonnes HOG.

The company, which uses a hybrid recirculation / flow-through system at its facility on the island of Indre Harøy, reported good biomass build-up during the quarter, with steady improvement in daily growth rates and continued strong results on key parameters such as feed factor, mortality, and proportion of superior quality.

Operational summary for the third quarter:

Accumulated mortality.
  • Harvestingof 680 tonnes HOG with a superior share of 98%.
  • Total price realisation at NOK 72 (£5.12) per kilo.
  • Average weight of 3.3 kg (HOG), up 10% from the second quarter.
  • Standing biomass of 2,582 tonnes live weight at the end of the third quarter.

"Biomass production is steadily improving at Indre Harøy, with a range of measures ongoing to utilise the full growth potential," said Salmon Evolution chief executive Trond Håkon Schaug-Pettersen.

Believes in higher prices in Q4

In a report released with the stock exchange announcement, the company stated that it is using current flexibility to postpone harvesting to the fourth quarter to maximise price realisation due to expected higher prices in that period.

"The standing biomass is near record levels at the beginning of the fourth quarter, which along with a further increase in expected harvest weight positions us well to benefit from the anticipated price increase," said Schaug-Pettersen.
